PROJECT DIRECTOR OF QUECHUA PROGRAM: DR. LEILA GOMEZ, PROFESSOR OF WOMEN AND GENDER STUDIES AND LATIN AMERICAN STUDIES.

Dr. Leila ³Òó³¾±ð³ú has led the Quechua Program since its creation in 2021, when she was LALSC Director (2017-23). She secured funding through Department of Education UISFL grants in 2020 and 2022. Dr. ³Òó³¾±ð³ú manages the Quechua curriculum and all classes, community events, activities, faculty workshops, pedagogical material development, and study abroad opportunities related to the Program. Her primary research and teaching focus is Indigenous women and the land struggle in Latin America.

Recently, Professor Leila ³Òó³¾±ð³ú; Kathia Ibacache, CU Romance Languages librarian; and Javier Muñoz-Díaz, Assistant Professor at Farmingdale State College have co-authored a new book entitled  (Routledge 2024) describing how faculty and librarians have collaborated to develop inclusive library collections and curricula by supporting Indigenous peoples' reclamation of lands and languages. ³Òó³¾±ð³ú specifically underscores the importance of the Quechua Program in this collaboration.
