Dr. Sara Sawyer is an internationally recognized expert in virology. In 2011, she received the PECASE award from President Barack Obama at the White House, and in 2022 was awarded the NIH Director鈥檚 Pioneer Award. Dr. Sawyer is a co-founder of Darwin Biosciences, where she serves on the Board of Directors. She sits on the NIH Office of AIDS Research Advisory Council, and acts as a consultant to the US government on issues related to global health and pandemic preparedness. Her research focuses on zoonotic viruses, including HIV-1. She holds a PhD from Cornell University.
