Thomas Pegelow Kaplan received a faculty fellowship from CU's Benson Center to support a student research initiative in collaboration with the Center for Research on Antisemitism at the Technical University of Berlin and the Open University of Israel. As part of this initiative, he will lead CU students to Berlin in November to conduct research at major archives and research institutions in the city.

Elias Sacks recently taught a four-session course on Modern Judaism for the Wexner Heritage Program, a multi-year educational experience focused on Jewish learning and leadership training for volunteer leaders in communities across North America. He taught for the program's Toronto cohort, exploring topics including the challenges of Jewish modernity, diverse visions of modernization across the globe, theological and philosophical responses to the Holocaust, and contemporary debates about gender, sexuality, and interfaith marriage.

This spring, Sacks also delivered invited presentations at the University of Maryland, Princeton University, the University at Buffalo (SUNY), and the University of Toronto.

"During research for my book Beyond Chrismukkah about Christian-Jewish interfaith families, many interviewees wound up talking about their weddings and the rituals that they selected or innovated for the day to reflect their cultural background. Some of them had also designed their ceremonies to reflect feminism and marriage equality – something that the interfaith weddings had in common with many weddings where both members of the couple were Jewish."

An updated, revised and translated (into Russian) version of Professor Pegelow Kaplan's monograph The Language of Nazi Genocide has been published. The work is aimed at Russian readers "in the diaspora" from Israel to the Baltics and from Ukraine to Kazakhstan. By addressing the architecture of conceptual separation between groups and the means by which social aggression is disseminated, my study also offers a model for comparative studies of linguistic violence, hate speech, and genocide in the modern world, making it, sadly, ever more relevant today.
