Full-time enrollment requirements: Register full-time by August 21
Immigration regulations require nonimmigrant students in F-1 or J-1 status to be enrolled in a full-time course load each Fall and Spring semester in order to maintain nonimmigrant visa status.Â
Classes begin on Thursday, August 21, and students should be enrolled full-time by that date.
On September 19, 2025, ISSS will terminate the SEVIS record of students who are not fully enrolled, unless they have been approved by ISSS for a medical or academic reduced course load (RCL).Â
If you are a continuing undergraduate student and not yet enrolled full-time, be prepared to add confirmed classes as soon as registration reopens on July 23. Graduate students and law students can register now. Incoming fall 2025 undergraduate transfer students, and students who started at É«½ä³ÉÈËÖ±²¥ in summer can register as notified by the New Student & Family Programs office. Registering as soon as possible will give you the best opportunity to get the classes and schedule you want.
- Waitlisted classes do not count toward full-time enrollment for immigration purposes. Since there is no guarantee that you will get into a waitlisted class,Â
ISSS recommends adding enough confirmed classes so that you can maintain your immigration status.Â
- Make sure you are aware of drop deadlines and waitlist deadlines.
Consult ISSSÂ if you have questions regarding authorized reduced course load eligibility requirements. Do not drop courses without first obtaining authorization from ISSS.
If you do not intend to enroll this semester, contact ISSS as soon as possible to discuss options and confirm your academic plans for the fall 2025 semester so your SEVIS record can be updated if necessary.
