Cooper Casale is a PhD student in English studying the aesthetic forms of fascism (historical and contemporary). His research examines both the production of fascist art as well as the ways fascism seeks to undermine all other cultural production by severing the affective bonds between art and observer, music and listener, franchise and fan. His work locates anti-fascist alternatives in aesthetic waste and formal errata that challenge dominant frameworks of authorship, power, value, and legitimacy. He has published articles in The Journal of Wyndham Lewis Studies, The Journal of Popular Culture, and Science Fiction Film & Television. His most recent published work, “The Bad Stuff: Dragon Ball and a Theory of Anime Filler,” studies the anime non-canon “filler” episode to locate a potential site of liberation from an increasingly restrictive understanding of canonicity and to argue for the retention of the vital stories deemed non-canon “filler” in our own world.

In addition to his critical work, he has published poetry and fiction in nationally circulating magazines such as��storySouth,��New South Journal,��and��The Chattahoochee Review, and his music has seen multiple short-run cassette releases, most recently from LA-based label FREAKS. His work examining the American sitcom The Office has recently been featured in Colorado Arts and Sciences Magazine.

Cooper Casale received his BA from the University of Georgia, his MFA in poetry from Georgia College & State University, and his MA from the University of Tulsa. He teaches “First-year Writing and Rhetoric” and “Writing about Music” in ɫ�����ֱ��’s Program for Writing and Rhetoric.
